You've changed something and the 'Tune-In' link no longer plays!

You're right! We have made some changes to bring you superior quality sound using less of your bandwidth!

What's changed (the geeky bit!)

We've swapped our main 'Tune In' link in the sidebar on the left from an old MP3 stream at 128Kbps to an AAC Plus stream at 64 Kbps. That might seem like a bit of a backward step, but when you realise that a 128Kbps MP3 stream is equivalent to a 32Kbps AAC Plus stream, suddenly 64Kbps AAC Plus seems like a great bonus!

Why have we made these changes?

We've made these changes because
  • Some people still have limited bandwidth, our new stream brings superior sound (even on slower connections), or for our listeners with a restricted download limit. This is also great news for those of you who listen to us when you're out and about on your mobile phone.
  • Even if you are fortunate enough to have unlimited bandwidth on your internet connection, we still recommend you try our new higer quality AAC Plus stream

Most modern players can tune into our new stream, but if you're having difficulties, don't fear!

  • You can either follow the instructions below and download VLC Media Player which is a free download and will play pretty much anything you throw at it!
  • If you really don't want to use our new stream and still want the old one, click here or use the Pop-up player from the list on the left, we don't mind!
  • If you've already downloaded a file then you can still continue to use that one, or download the new one from the Tune In link on the left.

Your feedback is appreciated so please let us know what your experience was on either stream by e-mailing us at

Why does the current show differ from what's on your schedule page?

  • Like any other broadcaster we occasionally experience technical difficulties, even though we strive to correct them as soon as possible, occasionally you may hear our backup stream.

Don't worry, it's the same great mix of music you're used to on East Manchester Radio and rest assured we'll be back with you as soon as possible!

How can I quickly get to East Manchester Radio from my mobile phone?

  • If your phone has a QR reader, fire it up and point the phone's camera at the image below:

  • If your phone doesn't have a QR reader, simply tap http://bit.ly/emradio in to your phone's browser to bring you straight to our site! This link is also great for sharing our site on Twitter!

I'm using an Android phone and having difficulty tuning in, why is this?

  • Many media apps for Android have difficulties tuning in to online streams, however, there is a free (ad-supported) player that we have tested and works well with most streams. Visit Android Market to download 'A Online Radio'* to your phone.
Once installed, open 'A Online Radio' and select 'Add Channel' and enter http://eastmanchesterradio.com:8030

*Please note this is a third party application and is not connected with East Manchester Radio.
